Tip: The Value of Keeping Coupon Inserts

The links in the post below may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

coupons2Casual couponers browse their newspaper coupon inserts, clip the coupons they think they’ll use, then place the rest in the recycle bin. But as an Extreme Couponer, keeping all the coupons has great advantages!

I recommend that you keep all or the most of your coupons until they expire. You don’t necessarily have to clip every coupon. Many Extreme Couponers clip coupons for the products they are likely to buy and file the rest of the inserts into sheet protectors or gallon zip bags marked with the date of the inserts. If a stellar moneymaker comes up and the coupon isn’t clipped, find it by the insert date listed in our matchups, and cut it out while you make your shopping list.

Holding on to coupons, even for products you don’t personally use, can be beneficial. You can donate items you get for cheap or free, like glucose monitors to retirement centers, toys to shelters, non-perishables to food banks, soup kitchens, or needy neighbors, pet food to animal shelters, etc. Also, swapping coupons with friends or family for products you don’t use benefits you both.

The Ethics of BOGOs and Coupons that List Multiple Items

The links in the post below may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

bogoThere has been some confusion lately on the ethics of Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) coupons and coupons that list multiple items, so we’re here to set the record straight!

Almost all coupons are accompanied by the phrase “limit one coupon per purchase” (or something similar), meaning one manufacturer coupon is allowed per item purchased. For example, if you are buying one toothpaste and have a $0.75/1 manufacturer coupon, you may not use another manufacturer coupon on this item. If you have a coupon for $1.00/2 toothpaste, you may only use one coupon per two items purchased because the coupon attaches itself to both products. Got it? Okay, now on to BOGO and multiples!

Buy One Get One coupons come in different forms, such as “Buy ‘Product X’ and Get Another ‘Product X’ Free,” or “Buy ‘Product X’ and Get ‘Product Y’ Free.” These coupons are similar to $1.00/2 in that they attach to BOTH products, and therefore another manufacturer coupon CANNOT be used when only purchasing two products. By attempting to use a second manufacturer coupon on one of those two items, you are breaking the “one coupon per purchase” rule.

There are also B2G1 (Buy Two Get One) and coupons that list several items, and the same rules apply here: the coupon attaches itself to all products listed. Therefore, additional manufacturer coupons CANNOT be used when only purchasing those products.

Target Shoppers: Security Breach Affecting Millions

The links in the post below may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

1Attention Target shoppers! If you made any credit or debit purchases in-store between November 27th and December 15th, you may want to check your bank or credit card statements very closely. It appears that unauthorized access to Target’s payment card data during that time period may have allowed suspicious charges affecting millions of credit and debit cardholders. Keep in mind that this breach only happened in-stores and did not affect any online purchases. Head on over here for more details on how it may have affected you.

Couponing Tips: Print Coupons Twice for Maximum Savings!

The links in the post below may contain affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

couponsLove printable coupons? Did you know that most Internet printable coupons allow two printouts per coupon per computer, getting you double the savings? The majority of coupons on Coupons.com, Target.com, SmartSource.com, Hopster.com, CouponNetwork.com, and RedPlum.com and those available at individual Facebook pages can print out twice. You can do this by either hitting the back button or going to the original link and opening it up again. However, some coupons at those sites or ones like Stonyfield.com have a limit of one printout per coupon. Remember, it is ILLEGAL to copy any coupon.

To get additional printables, try these tips:

  • Print from multiple computers. If you have multiple computers, you can often print more coupons. Do be careful printing at work or a public library—often they require administrators to install any printing software.
  • If you don’t have multiple computers, ask family, friends and neighbors! Consider swapping coupons. Maybe they need all your pet-related coupons and would be glad to print some cereal coupons for you. Or trade items from your stockpile or a batch of your famous cookies for printable coupons.
  • Many coupons reset and can be printed again in the near future. The time that the most new coupons come out and others reset is the first day of the month.

Remember: Even if you can only print one or two copies of each coupon, that’s okay! You should be growing your stockpile slowly, most of the time adding just a handful of items each week.
